–Ft. Lauderdale-Key West Race is full!

–Still room aboard for Acura Key West Race Week.

–Possible other Caribbean races?

Ft. Lauderdale-Key West Race (Jan 10-13):

Sorry folks, this one is FULL!  Thanks to these OceanPlanet supporters for signing up: Dick Watts, Sylvain Allard, Rick Barry, Pat Leonard, Richard Parent, and our working team of Sandi Wooldridge, Donald Lawson, and Helen Babalis. Did I forget anyone? www.keywestrace.org

Acura Key West Race Week (Jan 16-20):

Still room, but filling fast. OceanPlanet is now being measured for IRC, since most of the other big boats that are entering prefer this.  Many will also submit PHRF ratings for a separate score and trophies.  There will be some very serious competition in our division! Around the bouys is not really an Open 60’s ideal racing course, so we realistically don’t expect to come out on top on handicap.  But our motto is “If we don’t win the race, then win the party”…..;-) Race info: www.premiere-racing.com  For more info on racing with us, contact Sandi Wooldridge: 954-938-0074, sandiwool@hotmail.com

Other races?:

Due to the hearty response of those wishing to sail and race aboard OceanPlanet, we are considering other winter/spring events.  These include the 26th annual Heineken St. Maarten Regatta (March 3-5, www.heinekenregatta.com), the BVI Spring Regatta (March 27-April 2, www.bvispringregatta.org) or Charleston Race Week (April 6-9, www.charlestonraceweek.com). Another possibility is Rolex Antigua Sailing Week (April 30-May 5, www.sailingweek.com).  We would have to make a final decision on our schedule based upon interest, so please contact us and let us know your ideas. Of course if we sign sponsorship for the China Cup or other European events, then we’ll have to adjust.

Be seen!

Note that in any of these events, OceanPlanet 1 is available for branding on sails, team shirts, our new website (coming soon), etc.  Look for a coming announcement about our new supplier sponsor, E-Paint (www.epaint.net) !

Some of you might remember this shot from Antigua Sailing Week in 2002….before I sailed solo (er, twice, that is) around the world:

Want to help?  Remember that you can sponsor a young sailor to sail with us at any of these events.  Also, we are looking for helpers/volunteers to look after OceanPlanet over the winter at wherever we wind up in Florida or the Caribbean.  We need to keep her safe at all times.

Talk to you soon,

Bruce
