The latest Ocean Planet adventures…
DON’T FORGET: Tomorrow night, June 26th at 6pm in Stockton at the Stockton Sailing Club, (www.stocktonsc.org/) I’ll be talking about Ocean Planet, the Around Alone, my upcoming CD, and may even play some swamp delta blues slide guitar. If you missed (or couldn’t get into) my show at the Corinthian YC on July 10th, this could be your last chance to catch me in California for a while….
I’ve just returned from the east coast where Ocean Planet appeared at the Wooden Boat Show in Rockland, Maine. What a great show, it was blast to be there and have so much attention for the boat! Thanks to MAS Epoxies (www.masepoxies.com) and the Wooden Boat Show for inviting us, I met many wonderful people and made great contacts.
Most fun conversation: A lot of visitors would walk up to the boat and ask “What are you doing here, this boat isn’t wood is it?” Whereupon I would hand them a core sample of our COVE composite hull (Schooner Creek Boat Works “Core/Veneer/Epoxy” laminate) and watch their brains boggle see (www.schoonercreek.com/). I sold a lot of Team gear and even landed a few donations for our program….Gotta love Rockland, it is a beautiful place and I hope to be there next year!
Ocean Planet is now at Portland Yacht Service in Portland, Maine (www.portlandyacht.com). We are working together to plan our refit and modifications for the Vendee Globe over this winter, and also use our project for education, seminars, and classes right there near the boat on the yard’s extensive facilities. I figure since the boat was built in Portland, Oregon, it will be good luck to do our prep in Portland, Maine! Stay tuned for more info on what we have planned, we’re very excited about it.
On the weekend of Aug 23-24, we will be back in Bristol, Rhode Island to visit our friends at the Herreshoff Museum and take some folks for a spin or two. Contact Bill Knowles at the Museum (www.herreshoff.org) for more info, and if you haven’t ever been there you should go!
More news soon…we have some GREAT developments coming with media and education partners for that big race next year….
